COMMUNITY MEETING ON PARKS.
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2009
SPFN and Friends of Sunnyside Conservatory are holding a joint Community Meeting on November 16 in the new Sunnyside Playground Clubhouse, 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Discussion will be around issues, curiosities, and desires in the use of the two newly renovated parks and buildings. Both advocacy groups will be asking for the participation of residents in stewardship for both sites, to help produce activities and events for community-building, and to interface with Rec. & Park with the interests of residents. Topics of interest are that of regular public access to the Park Clubhouse and Conservatory Octagon; what programming and outreach will RPD provide, and to what degree must groups fundraise to produce quality activities. Come prepared to find an area of interest in busy lives to share the fun and responsibility for retaining and maintaining our unique public spaces.

Sunnyside Clubhouse Opening:
Saturday, November 7, 2009

The Clubhouse was clean and beaming when residents came to admire it and share celebration of its re-opening. Kids had mats to play on inside and outside on the Plaza a jumpy to bounce on. Our new Rec. Director Joe Scott, along with NSA5 Manager Eric Andersen, Programs Supervisor Gil Rocha, and the Volunteer Div. went out of their way to have many playful activities for kids and adults alike. SPFN had a table full of healthy refreshments that were eaten down to a few left-over grapes. Rec. and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg was present as was Outreach Director Lisa Gruwell and Commissioners Tom Harrison and David Lee. San Francisco Parks Trust Executive Director Karen Kidwell and Communications Manager Kearstin Krehbiel came to admire our new space. The Director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services Mike Farrah was in attendance as was Captain David Lazar and several Officers from the Ingleside Police Station. We were honored to have them linger and talk to neighbors.
